This national park, in conjunction with 19 Heritage Sites, commemorates the heritage of copper mining on the Keweenaw Peninsula - its mines, its machinery and its people.

Self-guided walking tour maps of the Calumet Industrial Core (Calumet & Hecla Mining Company properties with wayside signs), the Historic Calumet Business District (the historic commercial buildings) and the Historic Laurium Residential District (the area's historic homes) are available. From June 24 through August 26 the park offers the following Ranger Programs: CALUMET WALKING TOUR - Tuesdays & Saturdays at 9:30 am - Explore the former Calumet & Hecla Copper Mining Company's industrial area and downtown Calumet's historic business district. 2 hours, 1.5 miles, easy terrain. The CALUMET CHILDREN'S PROGRAM - Fridays at 10 am - learning about history can be fun! Children ages 8 - 12 can join a ranger for a program filled with engaging activities. All children should wear sturdy shoes and bring water to drink. One hour and .5 miles. QUINCY RUINS WALK - Saturdays at 10:30 am - Join a ranger for a guided walk through the surface ruins of the Quincy Copper Mining Company, 1.5 hours, 1 mile, varied terrain. Meet at the Quincy Mine & Hoist Gift Shop on US-41 north of Hancock. From September 1 through September 29 the Calumet Walking Tour is on Saturday at 9:30 am with the Quincy Ruins Walk at 1:30 pm.
